The Tri-Cities area in Washington and has experienced significant population growth in recent years. As of the latest estimates, the region continues to be one of the fastest-growing areas in Washington State.
In 2023, the Washington State Office of Financial Management (OFM) estimated the population of the Tri-Cities MSA at approximately 316,600, reflecting a growth of nearly 13,000 people since the 2020 Census. By 2024, the combined population of Benton and Franklin counties was estimated at 320,150.
Tri-Cities has been a growth leader in Washington for two decades, consistently surpassing the state’s average annual growth rate. Over the past five years (2018–2023), the region’s population grew by just over 9% compared to the state’s 7%.
Between 2010 and 2020, Franklin County saw a 24% increase and Benton County an 18% increase. Projections suggest the area could reach 350,000 residents in the next 5 years.
Net migration accounts for about 70% of the increase. The remaining 30% comes from natural increase (births exceeding deaths), which is notably higher than in other Eastern Washington metro areas.
